Dear Tpojka,
You are receiving this message because you are a member of CodingForum (codingforum.net) or its predecessor, CodingForums (codingforums.com).
It saddens me to announce that CodingForum will tentatively shut down for good on October 22, 2023.
In the past year, @VIPStephan (https://www.codingforum.net/member/30448-vipstephan) and I (@chump2877 - https://www.codingforum.net/member/18068-chump2877), the forum administrators, never had the time or energy to further grow the forum and website traffic as we had previously envisioned.
Since we don’t expect much to change in the future, we can no longer justify remaining at the helm of website operations.
Our vBulletin Cloud plan/hosting (Bronze package, $179.95/yr) will expire on October 22, followed by our Namecheap Private Email service ($14.88/yr) for codingforum.net on November 9, 2023.
That said, if you’re interested in taking over the website and assuming future operating costs, then we will entertain any offer to transfer ownership. The cost of the website sale is negotiable. (We’re not looking for a big payday here. Instead, we’re more interested in giving the forum to someone who will preserve the many years of forum content and keep it online.)
The original forum was started in 2002, so there is a wealth of content here spanning the last 20 years. Thus, with the right know-how and motivation, we expect that a potential successor could tweak the website and forum data to improve exposure in the SERPs (Search Engine Results Pages), and thereby significantly grow website traffic, membership, and engagement beyond what we were able to achieve. (Again, Stephan and I never really made a concerted effort to improve website SEO, a.k.a., Search Engine Optimization.)
The forum is based on vBulletin software, so if you are interested you will need to either 1) continue with vBulletin Cloud (hosted/maintained/managed in the cloud by vBulletin), 2) port the forum database to an instance of vBulletin running on a local server, or 3) explore options for converting a vBulletin/Cloud-formatted database to some other forum software. In the latter 2 cases, we can provide a full export (MySQL dump) of the current forum data. (Also note that some tweaking of database data may still be required to load the data into a local vBulletin instance.)
In closing, we hope that one of our members will carry on the CF tradition and keep this site alive. If you are interested, contact one of us initially (and as soon as possible!) via the forum’s Private Messaging system at codingforum.net.
If this truly is the end, then we want to sincerely thank you for your past and current support! It has been our absolute pleasure to serve you and provide a safe haven for our fellow coders.
God Bless,
@chump2877
